Backtrack about one week ago. Logan decided to be extremely squirmy wormy and escaped Daddy's arms while they were seated in the recliner. Fell to the hardwood floor with a thud and a wail. Cried for about 5 minutes, then all was well. Nothing wrong...
Until last night. I'm feeding him a bottle around 11pm and, as usual, rocking him in my old rocking chair and caressing his head. I feel a soft squishy bump. Feel the other side - not one there. Something isn't right...
I called the pediatrician's office this morning as soon as they opened, 9am. Got an 11:30 appt, where the doctor felt his head and quickly said that she thought he had a skull fracture. Heart - meet throat. Throat - meet heart. Thankfully, we have wonderful doctors in the practice and she quickly handed me a tissue and apologized to me for upsetting me. Ummm... You didn't, but the fact that my baby who isn't quite 9 months old could have a skull fracture? Yeah - that would be what upset me.
Anyway, she sent us right over to the image center 2 minutes down the road. Logan was such a good boy during his x-rays. He laid perfectly still when they had him on his back, but when he had to be on his sides, he cried. Despite the crying, he was still so good - better than I expected him to be.
We had to wait a while for the radiologist to review the x-rays and call the doc's office. Finally got to go back to him, where he confirmed that Logan does have a small skull fracture. It's non-displaced & had no abnormalities, which is good news - no fluids leaking into his brain, nor is the brain damaged.
Talked to one of our doc's at 3pm - nothing to worry about. He'll heal and because of the x-ray report, we won't need to do a CAT scan.
He's acting perfectly normal and has been all week. He's in good spirits and doesn't seem to be bothered at all. We'll keep everyone updated, but everything should be ok.

The blonde one...
Can't leave out Ava in the updates, now can we? :)
Lauren has always joked that because she was present at Ava's birth, that some of her "essence" got into Ava. I'm wondering if that is true, because the more she grows up, the more I wonder how she could possibly be MY daughter and not my sister's!
Case in point - She LOVES to get dressed up, do her hair, and "look stylish" - her words, seriously. She is extremely theatrical, lives to perform in front of others, and, ok, honestly? She needs center stage in Life. But that's more than ok - she brings many a smile to our face daily.
Along with that theatrical personality is the ability to drive Mommy crazy faster than a speeding bullet. Thankfully, that part of her is balanced by her incredible spirit. If someone is hurt, sad, sick, Ava is there, front and center, ready to console, give a hug or share her blankie. Incredibly sweet and I love that about her.
This was supposed to be an update about her, but somehow, I ended up gushing instead of updating. That said, the update! She is LOVING school and is doing great. We got her progress report back and so far, all is great! Oh, and next week... Next week, I might cry. I have to register her for kindergarten. Kindergarten, people!! How did my baby girl get to be old enough for kindergarten already??
Time flies with kids... :(
Here are two pictures of her. One was taken this morning - she's wearing an Esmeralda dress (from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame), a Mulan fan, and has done her own hair in barettes and clips. Pure Ava. The other picture was from this summer, when the kids and I went to Martha's Vineyard. Dad had taken us out on the boat and we set up "camp" on Sengi's beach. Just love this shot of her.

Use the Force, young Logan... Use the Force...
Logan loves Daddy's lightsaber and his face completely lights up when Mike turns it on. Even better, Daddy let him take it for a test spin!

Bragging Rights
Yes, I think it's safe to say that Michael and I have total bragging rights when it comes to our kids. Case in point - Michaela. That adorable brown eyed girl is more than just a pretty face. She's got smarts AND is kind. Bragging? Nope, just stating the facts. Just the facts, ma'am, just the facts.1. Who was Student of the Month at Garrettford Elementary School this January 2008?
If you answered Michaela Cooley, you would be correct! She received the award for leadership. Go, girl!
2. Who brought home an interim report card that had nothing but P's and S's? (P = Proficient and S = Satisfactory - as opposed to Not Yet Proficient and Needs Improvement)
Again, if you answered Michaela, you would be.... correct!
Not to be outdone, outshined or outperformed by his biggest sister, Logan has been upping our bragging rights for him, too. The little man, at 8 months old, is now completely pulling himself to a standing position AND has been attempting walking while grabbing whatever helped him pull up. Like his crib. I walk in to get the moose from his nap. And he's standing, holding onto his crib rail. And while I watch him, he smiles, moves his left hand over, and then steps over to the left. Twice. I am NOT ready for him to be toddling around on 2 legs yet. He just started crawling and THAT alone keeps me plenty busy enough. :)

Party time...
Michaela's birthday party last month was fun. We had family over one day and on a different day, had her friends over. Emma, who is Michaela's BFF (Best Friends Forever, if you're not up on the lingo), couldn't make it to the friend party, so we made sure she came to the family one. Her mom, Bram, and I are friends, too, so it was great to have them with us.
Here's a picture of Emma, Michaela & Ava after Michaela opened Emma's present. Gee, Mulan... Think Emma knows her best friend pretty well? :)
